Your Guided Group Holiday To Munich & the Black Forest Travel with us to the setting of many a Grimm fairy-tale and birthplace of the Cuckoo Clock, Germany’s Black Forest & the magical city of Munich. Our journey begins in Munich, the largest city of Bavaria, located north of the Bavarian Alps on the banks of River Isar. We’ll enjoy a half day city tour and free time to appreciate Munich’s impressive squares, markets and world famous beer houses. Next, we’ll take a scenic train journey from Munich to the town of Karlsruhe in Southwest Germany, the base for the second half of our holiday and the perfect location from which to explore the Black Forest and its picturesque towns. From here, we’ll enjoy excursions to the 19th century spa town of Baden-Baden, the idyllic Lake Mummelsee and the “Jewel of the Black Forest”, Freiburg.

Day 1 : Arrive In Munich

Day 2 : Munich City Tour

Guided City Tour of Munich
After breakfast you will take a city tour with a local guide to discover the major and most beautiful sights of Munich. The tour will include King's Square with its three temple buildings in the classical Greek style, the Pinakotheken Art Museums, the Hall of Generals, Prinzregenten Street lined by the House of Arts, the Bavarian National Museum and the Angel of Peace monument, the elegant buildings and shops along Maximilian Street, the Maximilianeum, the National Opera House, the Royal Palace, Marienplatz Square and the medieval city gates. You will also stop at the traditional Viktualienmarkt, an open air food market with colourful outdoor stalls that takes place daily in the square in the centre of Munich.

Day 3 : Salzburg

Walking Tour of Salzburg
After breakfast, travel by coach to the picturesque city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the city while also taking in some of the views of the Eastern Alps.
Free Time at Leisure
The afternoon can be enjoyed at your own pace to stroll the charming alleys or visit some of Salzburg's churches, or simply relax in one of Salzburg's traditional cafés before taking your coach back to Munich.
Day 4 : Train Journey To Karlsruhe

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Munich Central Station for your train ride to Karlsruhe (approx. 3-3.5hrs). This train journey brings you through the northern Black Forest's charming countryside. Upon arrival in Karlsruhe, you will be transferred by coach to your hotel with assistance.
In the afternoon you will have free time to explore or shop at your own leisure. Your local guide will be happy to offer suggestions of activities to suit your interests. You could visit the striking Botanical Gardens in the centre of Karlsruhe surrounded by historical structures such as an orangery, greenhouses, a winter garden and the State Art Gallery Karlsruhe.
Day 5 : Alsace
Location: Alsace
This morning, let's cross the Rhine River and explore the French region of Alsace. First, we'll start the day with a walking tour of Strasbourg's old medieval town. Located on a river island named "Grande île", Strasbourg city centre is UNESCO World Heritage site, characterized by its half-timbered houses, and cobbled stone streets, dominated by the Gothic architecture of its Cathedral.
On the way between Strasbourg and Colmar, we'll make a stop for a food and wine tasting. Let's experience more with some Alsatian specialties such as choucroute (sauerkraut), flammekueche (a thin, crispy tart), and the region's renowned wines, including Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
This afternoon, we'll discover more with a walking tour of Colmar, a storybook town that seems straight out of a fairy tale, with its well-preserved medieval architecture, colorful half-timbered houses, and cobblestone streets. Known as the "Little Venice of Alsace", due to its canals that wind through the town, Colmar is also a great place to spot storks, depending on the season, so, look up and try to spot their nests on the roofs and chimneys of houses.
Day 6 : Baden-Baden, Black Forest & Lake Mummelsee

Walking Tour of Baden-Baden
After breakfast, travel by coach to the world famous spa town of Baden-Baden, reputed for its salt- and radon-rich thermal hot springs. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Baden-Baden's highlights including the Kurhaus, Augusta Square, the Colonnades and Lichtental Alley.
Trip to the Black Forest & Lake Mummelsee
In the afternoon, embark on a scenic drive along the Black Forest Ridgeway, offering spectacular views of the Black Forest and its unparalleled richness of natural scenery. Your final stop is the idyllic Lake Mummelsee, which is one of the few cirque lakes in the Black Forest remaining from the ice age. Due to its unusual location and beautiful natural setting, many tales featuring water nymphs and an underwater king grew up around this legendary lake. Here, you can buy some traditional Black Forest souvenirs such as the cuckoo clock or enjoy a piece of the famous Black Forest cake.
Day 7 : Freiburg

Walking Tour of Freiburg
After breakfast, travel by coach to the vibrant university city of Freiburg, situated at the foot of the Black Forest’s wooded slopes and vineyards, for a guided walking tour of the city centre. Freiburg, also known as the “Jewel of the Black Forest”, is home to one of Germany’s oldest universities and a Gothic sandstone cathedral. Be captured by its medieval old town, charming gabled town houses, cobblestone lanes and cafe-rimmed plazas.
Free Time at Leisure
In the afternoon you will be free to explore the city at your own pace. We recommend taking a cable car up Schlossberg Mountain to get to the lookout tower on top, where astounding views of the Black Forest, Freiburg and the Vosges mountain range in France await.
Day 8 : Depart Germany
Location: Munich

Time to say 'auf Wiedersehen' to Germany. Transfer from your hotel, with guide assistance, for your return flight home.
