Day 1: Anchorage

Location: Anchorage

Accommodation Name: Hotel

Welcome to Alaska! Located in south-central Alaska on the shores of Cook Inlet lies Anchorage – a unique urban environment in the heart of the wilderness. Your adventure begins here with a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight. If you arrive early, maybe head to the Anchorage Museum or check out the sights and try spotting a moose wandering the streets of town (yes, really). This evening, maybe celebrate the beginning of a new adventure with an optional group dinner.

Day 2: Denali National Park

Location: Denali National Park

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

Depart Anchorage this morning, and then do a short ascent of The Butte (as the locals call it) for some incredible views over the mountain-fringed Matanuska Valley. Enjoy the gorgeous scenery along the way of local farms and the Knik River below as you walk among pine trees surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks and birdlife. Then hit the road for the gorgeous Denali National Park – a park and preserve with six million acres of Alaskan wilderness featuring North America’s tallest peak. Arrive at the park, set up camp, take in the scenery and enjoy a night off!

Included Activities:
-Palmer - Bodenburg Butte Hike

Day 3: Denali National Park

Location: Denali National Park

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

Today you’ll embark on one of the many iconic hikes that Denali has to offer. Your leader will choose the exact trail based on the group's preferences, as well as the location of your campsite. No matter which you choose, you’ll pass through gorgeous scenery, looking out for the abundant local wildlife – you might be lucky enough to see moose, caribou, Alaska brown and black bears, Dall sheep and wolves (among a long list of other wildlife) on your trek.

Included Activities:
-Denali National Park - Leader-led hike

Day 4: Seward

Location: Seward

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

Embrace an early start to the day as you enjoy a long but scenic drive back through Anchorage and down the Parks Highway to Seward – one of Alaska's oldest and most picturesque towns. Along the way, you’ll stop at Turnagain Arm. A waterway into the northwestern part of the Gulf of Alaska, this area was named for British explorer James Cook, who was forced to ‘turn again’ when the waterway didn’t hold the fabled Northwest Passage on his 1778 voyage. Explore this scenic area, then continue to Seward. This vibrant town is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park and has galleries, boutique shops and a bustling harbour.

Included Activities:
-Anchorage - Turnagain Arm

Day 5: Seward

Location: Seward

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

Strap on your boots for what will be a challenging – but incredibly rewarding – hike along the Harding Icefield Trail. Starting from the Exit Glacier area, you’ll ascend from the valley floor through forests of alder and cottonwood trees. Black bears are a common sight along the trail, so be sure to keep an eye out! Once you climb above the tree line, get set for an unforgettable view of icefield, stretching toward the horizon and broken only by the occasional mountain peak. Follow the trail back down to the valley, then return to your campsite for a well-deserved rest.

Included Activities:
-Kenai Fjords National Park - Harding Icefield full day guided hike

Day 6: Homer

Location: Homer

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

Bid farewell to Seward and head out on a road trip along the Kenai Peninsula. Along the way, stop in at the small town of Moose Pass, where you can choose to kayak on Trail Lake. Then, continue to Homer. Also known as the ‘cosmic hamlet by the sea’, the town boasts both some incredible scenery and an artsy downtown. Once you’ve set up camp, get a sample of that scenery on a walk of the famous Homer Spit and its views of Kachemak Bay. You’re likely to spot bald eagles, many of which call this area home.

Included Activities:
-Homer - Homer Spit Trail

Optional Activities:
-Moose Pass - Guided Lake Kayaking

Day 7: Homer

Location: Homer

Accommodation Name: Camping (with facilities)

This morning, a half day kayaking tour of Homer awaits. Hop on a water taxi across to Kachemak Bay State Park, pick out your kayak and then get paddling! You’ll take in Alaska’s impressive coastal scenery as you head around Yukon Island, and might even spot eagles, sea lions and the whales that sometimes wander into the bay. Once you’ve made the round trip, head back to Homer via the water taxi and enjoy a free afternoon in the town, before one last night camping under the stars.

Included Activities:
-Homer - Half Day Kachemak Bay Kayak Tour

Day 8: Anchorage

Location: Anchorage

Say goodbye to Homer this morning and drive back along the Kenai Peninsula toward Anchorage. Along the way, stop in the town of Girdwood for lunch, then arrive back in Anchorage by 3 pm, where your trip comes to an end. If you’d like to extend your stay in Alaska, just speak to your booking agent.

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I just completed my first Intrepid tour which was 33 days travelling around Central America - I had the time of my life! It was great to have the benefit of a guide (Fluffy was amazing!) and be able to ask questions at any point, but I also liked the freedom that you were permitted throughout. The group tour made boarder crossings seamless and the whole process felt easy - there was never one hiccup. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout, and I cannot recommend Central America enough - the people, the food, the sun and the activities were just amazing :) Can't wait to book my next adventure soon!

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times now and can't recommend them enough. The trips are always exciting, full of history and immersive in the culture and environment. The office staff are great too and always happy to help with any questions you might have. Everywhere I have gone with the company has been different but the guides and itinerary have always been excellent and full of knowledge and passion for their country. Add in the social responsibility angle the company has and it top quality ethical practice and you can't go wrong

15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

North American Adventure

12-Oct-2021

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

I have just completed a 12 day food tour of Vietnam, and had an amazing time. Our tour leader was great, knowledgeable and kind, who helped throughout the trip with recommendations for places on our free days, and spas. All the food we tried was delicious. It is a very fast paced tour, and Bon tried to maximise our experiences for the best.

13-Aug-2024

We had a fantastic time on the Botswana Highlights tour recently. We chose Intrepid because it seemed to suit what we wanted - well planned itinerary, small group, comfortable without being overly luxurious (and pricey), and supportive of the local community and environment. We weren't disappointed, and as we met with other like-minded travellers then we all had a great time. We are already planning our next Intrepid tour - maybe Vietnam & Cambodia :-)
