Tour Overview

Become immersed in Croatia's natural beauty while sailing the stunning Adriatic coast. Mix lazy days of swimming and beach going with time spent exploring medieval fortresses, sitting in lively restaurants, wandering cobbled streets and hiking to ancient ruins. Wind down in the evening and fall asleep onboard the boat, being lulled to sleep by the sound of lapping waves.

Highlights

  • What better way to see the historic towns, protected forests and stunning islands of Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast than aboard a private yacht? All aboard for a week in paradise.

  • Explore beautiful Split, where tradition, modernity and a variety of European influences come together. A visit to the Diocletian’s Palace reveals some of the Adriatic Coast’s most important surviving Roman buildings.

  • Bliss out on Brac’s world famous Zlatni Rat beach, a spit of white sand jutting out into turquoise waters.

  • Opened to the public only in 1989, the island of Vis boasts coastal scenery and a military history just waiting to be discovered. Also, the local vugava wine is rather nice.

  • Stari Grad, Hvar’s Old Town, is quite literally one of the oldest towns in Europe, and a charming one at that. It provides a great base from which to explore the island.

Itinerary

Expand All

Day 1: Split To Brac

Location: Split to Brac

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

Dobro Dosli! Welcome to Croatia. Your adventure begins in Split with a group meeting at 3 pm. If you arrive early, take the chance to see what makes Split the soul of Dalmatia. There are the impressive ruins of Diocletian's Palace, Split's most imposing structure, to explore or markets just outside the palace walls. After your meeting, you’ll head to the local supermarket to buy supplies for your trip, then board the yacht and sail to sunny Brac – the largest island in central Dalmatia. Take a leisurely cruise along the distinctly Mediterranean coast, soaking up the sunshine and the scenery. Then, weigh anchor and go for a dip in the sea or snorkel and spot sea anemones, crabs, sea urchins and small fish.

Day 2: Brac To Vis

Location: Brac to Vis

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

After a breakfast onboard, bid farewell to Brac and set sail to Vis – the furthest island from the mainland. On the way, you might stop in for a swim near Milna or the island of Solta. When you arrive, you can take an optional tour to learn about the island’s history – passing between Greek, Roman, Venetian, Napoleonic, Austrian and Italian hands. Visit nuclear fallout shelters, churches and vantage points with great views across the ocean. If you like, you can also take an optional winery tour and indulge in a few glasses of the local vino.

Optional Activities:
-Vis - Island tour
-Vis - Wine tour

Day 3: Vis To Hvar

Location: Vis to Hvar

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

Have breakfast onboard, then make your way slowly to Hvar. Along the way, you might stop at the Pakleni Islands or Stoncica for a swim. After arriving in Hvar you can wander around the towns, home to some wonderfully preserved Renaissance facades. If you like, hike past dramatic jagged limestone cliffs and undulating farms, ancient olive groves and fields of rosemary and lavender. There’s also an option to cross the island by car to Hvar Town – often known as the ‘San Tropez of Croatia’.

Day 4: Hvar To Lastovo

Location: Hvar to Lastovo

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

Make breakfast onboard the boat this morning and then set sail for the day. Make a stop around Lovista or Scedro for a morning swim, and then cruise along to Lastovo. On the way, explore some of the 46 islets and reefs around the island’s edges. Over 70% of Lastovo is forested, making it the perfect place to stretch your legs after a day spent at sea. There's also Venetian architecture from the 15th and 16th centuries and high number of churches to find in your free time.

Day 5: Lastovo To Korcula

Location: Lastovo to Korcula

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

Sail through the jewel-like waters to Korcula this morning, stopping at Badija or Polace for a refreshing morning swim. Greeks settled in Korcula in the 6th century BC, but the town was also occupied by the Romans, Slavs and then the Venetians between 1420 and 1797. Even Napoleon was ruler for a while! As a result of all these influences, Korcula has a cosmopolitan Old Town. Alongside the idyllic beaches, you’ll have plenty of options for your free time. Ask your leader for the best dinner recommendations for a good feed.

Day 6: Korcula To Mljet

Location: Korcula to Mljet

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

After breakfast onboard, set sail for the island of Mljet, stopping for a swim along the way. Legendary in ancient history as the island where the shipwrecked Odysseus lived for seven years, today the island is a haven of lush national park, forests and small villages. Since Greek sailors sought haven here from storms, the island has been inhabited by Illyrians, Romans, Slavs and Avars. In the 13th century the island was given to the Benedictine order who built a monastery in the middle of one of the island's western lakes – Veliko Jezero. When you arrive, perhaps rent a bike and cycle through the national park. Tonight, you could try the local wine – the fields and vineyards that dot the island are the foundation of the local economy, with Mljet's villagers producing wine and olive oil as they have been for hundreds of years.

Optional Activities:
-Mljet - Bike rental (per hour)
-Mljet - Mljet National Park Entrance fee

Day 7: Mljet To Elafiti Islands To Dubrovnik

Location: Mljet to Elafiti Islands to Dubrovnik

Accommodation: Overnight Yacht

Depart the picturesque Mljet and head to the hidden paradise of Elafiti Islands. Made up of three main islands – Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan – the olive groves, citrus trees and ancient ruins will provide a scenic backdrop for lunch. Then, sail on towards Dubrovnik, you will arrive at marina near Komolac. You can then head into Dubrovnik for your final night with the group – there’s a regular bus service – or stay close and enjoying dinner and drinks at the lovely marina. The choice is all yours!

Day 8: Dubrovnik

Location: Dubrovnik

After breakfast aboard the yacht, your trip will end around 10 am. There are no activities planned for today and you’re free to depart at any time. If you’re flying out of Croatia today, please don’t book a flight earlier than 3 pm in case your arrival is delayed due to weather conditions.

Please note that the sailing times listed above are a guide only and subject to change. They are dependent on weather and sailing conditions.

    Accommodation

    • This trip is accommodated entirely on board a yacht of between 48ft to 52ft. A typical yacht for 8 travellers is equipped with 4 double share cabins, 2/3 shared bathrooms and 2 showers. Our boats are real yacht’s and this is a real sailing trip. Yachts are designed to keep sleeping areas to the absolute minimum of space, while maximising common areas as much as possible.
    • Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another passenger of the same gender, which will mean sharing a double cabin with a double mattress. Everyone including the skipper shares the bathrooms on board. There is no twin share bedding on this yacht.
    • While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of an authentic sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.
    • ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION:
    • Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. For most of our destinations, we can provide transfers between the airport/hotel and the port/marina. Please check the joining and finish point information in the trip notes for details.
    • ELECTRICITY:
    • While there should be electricity on board throughout your trip the voltage is likely to vary widely, from 12V to 220V, and when in port or moored we are dependent on the supply available. Please be aware that the supply may not be sufficient to power some electronic devices all the time and that you may need a voltage adapter or similar (such as portable inverter used in cars). On some trips it may be possible to charge devices ashore at restaurants or resorts, however this is not guaranteed.
    • WI-FI:
    • Please note that our sailing boats do not have Wi-Fi. You will be getting off the boat and visiting towns regularly so you will be able to connect with the outside world then.

    Important Information

    • This trip is onboard a mono hull sailing yacht. We use 2 types of sailing yachts for these departures, an Omega Kiss and an Aqua Kiss. Both yachts are of a similar standard

    Check out our Q&As

    • Is this trip right for you

Our yachts have a small Zodiac on board, which is used to transport travellers to shore if we need to anchor in the bay. However, we will most often overnight in the small marinas on each island we visit, so the Zodiacs aren’t used. Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb in and out of, but a sense of humour and a can-do attitude are all you need.

This is an adventure on board a real yacht, which means living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers need to be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters can be relatively compact, but you will spend most of your time above board in the open air.

Please note that smooth sailing depends on the weather, so itinerary changes may occur at the last minute if the weather becomes unfavourable. You can trust your knowledgeable skipper to choose an alternative route or activity if any changes are made.

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I just completed my first Intrepid tour which was 33 days travelling around Central America - I had the time of my life! It was great to have the benefit of a guide (Fluffy was amazing!) and be able to ask questions at any point, but I also liked the freedom that you were permitted throughout. The group tour made boarder crossings seamless and the whole process felt easy - there was never one hiccup. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout, and I cannot recommend Central America enough - the people, the food, the sun and the activities were just amazing :) Can't wait to book my next adventure soon!

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times now and can't recommend them enough. The trips are always exciting, full of history and immersive in the culture and environment. The office staff are great too and always happy to help with any questions you might have. Everywhere I have gone with the company has been different but the guides and itinerary have always been excellent and full of knowledge and passion for their country. Add in the social responsibility angle the company has and it top quality ethical practice and you can't go wrong

    15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

I have just completed a 12 day food tour of Vietnam, and had an amazing time. Our tour leader was great, knowledgeable and kind, who helped throughout the trip with recommendations for places on our free days, and spas. All the food we tried was delicious. It is a very fast paced tour, and Bon tried to maximise our experiences for the best.

    13-Aug-2024

We had a fantastic time on the Botswana Highlights tour recently. We chose Intrepid because it seemed to suit what we wanted - well planned itinerary, small group, comfortable without being overly luxurious (and pricey), and supportive of the local community and environment. We weren't disappointed, and as we met with other like-minded travellers then we all had a great time. We are already planning our next Intrepid tour - maybe Vietnam & Cambodia :-)
