Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1: Sydney — Hunter Valley
Location: Hunter Valley
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Hunter Valley
Welcome to Australia! Upon arrival at the Sydney International Airport, you will pick up your car to start your self-drive journey. Depart Sydney and travel north over the Harbour Bridge onto the Pacific Highway. Detour through the towns of Gosford and Newcastle, the sixth-largest city in Australia where you will head on a breathtaking walk along the foreshore. From Newcastle, travel via the Maitland and onto Hunter Valley. With an abundance of wineries, take the opportunity to taste and purchase some of Australias finest wines. Discover the art and gourmet delights the Hunter Valley has to offer.
Overnight in the Hunter Valley
Day 2: Hunter Valley — Port Stephens
Location: Port Stephens
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Port Stephens
Leave the Hunter Valley and travel northeast to Port Stephens. Known as the Blue Water Wonderland, Port Stephens is a natural bay that is two-and-a-half times the size of the Sydney Harbour! It is almost entirely enclosed by two dormant volcanic headlands. This area offers fantastic seafood and over 26 golden sand beaches to explore. We recommend you head on an afternoon cruise to see the Bottlenose dolphins (on your own account).
Overnight in Port Stephens
Day 3: Port Stephens — Coffs Harbour
Location: Coffs Harbour
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Coffs Harbour
Depart Port Stephens and continue your journey to Bulahdelah, the entrance to Myall Lakes National Park. Travel north along the Lakes Way, a scenic route with rainforests, offering breathtaking views of the inland lakes and ocean beaches. Drive along the Manning Valley and through Taree to Port Macquarie. From there you will make your way to Coffs Harbour, the start of the sub-tropical northern coast of New South Wales and the surrounding district. This area is known for producing timber, bananas, vegetables, dairy products, and delicious fish. The “Big Banana” is open daily with a comprehensive display of the banana industry.
Overnight in Coffs Harbour
Day 4: Coffs Harbour — Byron Bay
Location: Byron Bay
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Byron Bay
This northern stretch of New South Wales is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Australia. From Coffs Harbour, the highway follows the coast to Woolgoolga and then turns inland towards Grafton, a graceful old country town on the banks of the mighty Clarence River. From Grafton, you may travel to Woodburn and on to Ballina, and then a further 38 kilometres to Byron Bay, which attracts surfers from near and far. Discover Wategos Beach and Cape Byron, the easternmost point in mainland Australia and home to some of the best beaches for surfing on the coast.
Overnight in Byron Bay
Day 5: Byron Bay
Location: Byron Bay
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Byron Bay
Spend the day free at leisure. Discover the incredible restaurants and cafes in the area, take a surfing lesson, or relax on the beach.
Overnight in Byron Bay
Day 6: Byron Bay - Brisbane
Location: Brisbane
Accommodation Name: Hotel in Brisbane
For early risers, we highly recommend taking a trip to the beach this morning to watch the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. Today you will depart Byron and travel north to Brunswick Heads. You may either continue your journey along the coast via Pottsville Beach and Kingscliff and travel to Brisbane via the Gold Coast, or drive inland past Murwillumbah. Continue to the Pacific Motorway for a short, direct route to Brisbane or travel via Burleigh Heads and Surfers Paradise. You may also discover the Gold Coast Hinterland with a stop at Lamington National Park before you arrive in Brisbane. Stay overnight at your hotel in Brisbane.
