The new circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Rest assured that regardless of the circuit you will enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the site. Travellers completing the 4 day, 3 night Inca Trail will be on Circuit 5 upon reaching the site of Machu Picchu.

6. ACCOMMODATION NOTE:

Please be aware that properties we stay in with only two stories may not have elevators installed and climbing the stairs with your luggage will be necessary.

Group Leader

This G Adventures group trip is accompanied by one of our group leaders, otherwise known as a Chief Experience Officer (CEO). The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects.

We also use local guides where we think more specific knowledge will add to the enjoyment of the places we are visiting - we think it's the best of both worlds.

Meals

Eating is a big part of traveling. G Adventures understands the importance of breakfast to start your day, we strive to include a basic breakfast wherever possible. A typical breakfast may include toast, coffee and tea, however this may vary depending on the city. Should breakfast not be included, your CEO can suggest some local options.

Travelling with G Adventures you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. While trekking in remote regions etc. food is included, plentiful and made of fresh local ingredients.

For all trips please refer to the meals included and budget information for included meals and meal budgets.

About Accommodation

Please note that hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru (even in upgraded hotels and private homes). We appreciate your patience and understanding that these occurrences are outside of our control.

What to Take

Most people automatically assume that the weather is hot in South America, but because of the higher altitude in the Andes, the temperature can feel quite cold, especially at night.

We recommend using a backpack for your convenience, or a medium-sized suitcase if you prefer. A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items. Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage.

All other camping equipment for the Inca Trail hike is provided and included in the cost of the excursion. Porters carry the gear, so you will only be responsible for carrying your daypack. But please be aware there are weight limits on what the porters can carry, thus every passenger is limited to 6kg, including sleeping bags.

Spending Money

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.

Solo Travellers

We believe solo travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and solo travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.

During the Amazon Jungle stay, you can expect to see a variety of wildlife including birds typical of the river or forest edge, anacondas, giant river otters, black caimans, and a range of other birds and animals. The Tambopata Rainforest Area holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area.

  • What activities are included during the stay at Lake Titicaca?

During the stay at Lake Titicaca, you will enjoy a guided tour of the lake, visit the community on the Taquile Islands, and have lunch with spectacular views. You will also experience a homestay in a small village, participate in local traditions, and visit the floating islands of Uros to learn about the unique lifestyle of the locals.

  • What is the accommodation like during the tour?

The tour offers a variety of accommodations including hotels and guesthouses for 16 nights, the intimate G Lodge Amazon for 2 nights, an overnight bus for 1 night, and a homestay for 1 night. This provides a diverse and immersive stay throughout the journey.

  • Are there any special requirements for visiting Machu Picchu?

Yes, current and correct passport details are required at the time of confirmation for visiting Machu Picchu. Regulations require that different circuits be followed within the site to relieve crowding, and tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is possible that members of the same group might visit Machu Picchu on different circuits.

  • What kind of transportation is used during the tour?

The tour uses a mix of public buses, private vans, planes, trains, boats, and canoes to ensure a comprehensive and scenic exploration of Peru's diverse landscapes and cultural sites.

  • What should I be aware of regarding the weather and conditions in Peru?

In Peru, hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common, even in upgraded hotels and private homes. Additionally, during the wet season from January to April, some campsites on the Inca Trail may become unusable due to severe rain, and changes to the itinerary may be made for safety.

  • How long has the tour company been trading?

G Adventures was established in 1990

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another G Adventures traveller of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement. An optional service that may be available is called "My Own Room". This service allows solo travellers to request their own room.

  • Can I join the tour once it has departed?

It's extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary, please consult us before you book.

We’ve just finished this trip. Completely amazing and enjoyable. It was busy but filled with unforgettable experiences. The hotels were better than expected, all fine and mostly really nice. The included activities were great and plenty of others to choose from as well. The guide, Juber, was amazing seemed to go way beyond what you’d expect and always available to help. A few highlights Machu Picchu, salt flats, Atacama Desert, horse riding, San Pedro. We did Peru, Bolivia and Chile some of the group were continuing on to Argentina. I think only note of caution was the silver mine tour in Potosi, it is quite daunting going down into the mine and 4 out of 10 of us on the group didn’t make it down. Perhaps a little more warning could have been provided beforehand

Galapagos

This was our first trip with G Adventures. We took the 8 day trip around Galapagos on their ship Yolita II. The guide, Adrienne, was knowledgeable and very pleasant. Each day had a variety of activities to choose from so you could fill your day or pick and choose what you wanted to do. The guide knew where to look for various animals so we saw an abundance of wildlife - lots of different sea birds, sea lions, a few kinds of iguanas, and many kinds of fishes. The only negative, and it's not G Adventures fault, is that the little ship rocks and rolls and night which can make sleeping challenging.

The tour was great! Our guide Peter was very knowledgeable and gave us just the right amount of information about the sights and animals we were seeing. He was also very personable and had a great sense of humour. Our cook was great as well! They were both flexible and accomodated our requests to spend longer looking at some animals, to visit craft markets, etc. The lodge accommodations both inside and outside Kruger National Park were fantastic.

Fantastic trip overall with very efficient staff on board. Fantastic food throughout. Deluxe cabin was disappointing and not as advertised and many problems with the air conditioning in our cabin meant we had 2 sleepless nights.
